Virtual Exhibition : Localization Of Blackness

Hello Everyone ! ,

The goal of the Localization Of  Blackness virtual exhibition is for users to explore the localization of Blackness and the history of African American that lies in the physical realm and the ever changing digital aspects of online preservation. In addition to this exhibit we also see the localization of how history is displayed through different uses of media, pictures, works, books and films. In believing that all history is American history, I use the exhibition to explore the ideas and the culture that exist within African American history by displaying historical pictures and figures that have contributed to this history. Not only does preserving African American history gives context to understanding the past but also a framework of how we should look at history in the present and what to do for the future. Hence the title of the topic we are able to see how people of African and other diaspora are scattered but better find localization within their communities, work or the way they express themselves in what ways possible. Through my exhibition you can explore multiple ways of interacting with the information by interacting with the library itself as well, which includes historical context books and important books that laid the foundation for the world and African American communities. The virtual classroom whiteboard and Black Board are used to write research questions or questions that invoke a way of researching, digging deeper into the realm of African American studies. By posing three questions and allowing others to look for more answers this gives other people the initiative to do more cognitively aware searches of other African Americans they find interesting. Another aspect to keep in mind is the space of the classroom which gives off a museum plus classroom and history room that gives user and multi purpose experience and shows how well African American history and Art blends well into these spaces. This Virtual exhibition is not only something you can enjoy but also a learning tool to explore the ways history is multifaceted and can be used for educational purposes, historical lectures and provide a safe, conducive learning environment for others to learn.

To add on to the title and using the virtual exhibition I also included history-makers clips to further strengthen the idea of why we should preserve African American history.  The history maker is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit research and educational institution committed to preserving and making widely accessible the untold personal stories of both well-known and unsung African Americans. I used four clips from history makers to illustrate the strength of having this history looked at and persevere while also providing empirical evidence as to why this history is imperative to understanding American history. These individuals who also are contributors to this exhibition are individuals who are in the history makers and also see the importance of elevating the awareness of historic preservation by using their voice to spread information about their lives and ways they have lived it.
